By Mike Winter, 05.25.2009 Sometimes one hears playing that is so pure, so magical, that there is very lttle that can be said. Words become superfluous. Just as well, because it’s hard to talk when your jaw is on the floor. The performance last night by Lukas Vondracek was such an occasion: simply a listening experience of a lifetime. Over more than 50 years as a loving listener, his was some of the most beautiful playing I have ever heard, from anyone, anywhere. I am so furtunate to be here when he is here to enjoy every note of his journey to the finals. He even plays my favorite piano: the Foundation’s New York Steinway. Thank you Lukas. |
